About Us
The St Johns Mill charity was established in 2000 as a Millennium project supported by the Islands churches and designed to provide a central facility for training and activities which would benefit the whole Island community. It is a registered Manx Charity No 833 and since inception as well as providing an outstanding venue for many 100’s of events for businesses, Government Departments, Charities, Community Groups and the voluntary sector it has worked in partnership with others on a range of initiatives that have been of benefit to the community.
Care for the Family
This UK national charity appointed their first ever regional representative to be based at ‘The Mill’ and over the last four years their resources have been used to equip parents through a wide range of courses.
Christian Listening
The Mill has partnered with Acorn and Agape to train a team of people from many local churches with the skills necessary to provide pastoral support through Listening.
Diocesan institute of Christian Education ( D.I.C.E )
The mill is used on a weekly basis to equip and train those wishing to develop skills and knowledge to take up roles in the Anglican Church.
History Makers
The Mill worked with the International Leadership Institute to develop a course of Training Young Leaders for the next generation of Christian Leaders.
Manx Wildlife Trust
Working in partnership, the award winning Mill wildflower garden demonstrates best practice for environmental management of a small area. In 2009 work commenced on the restoration of a small woodland area on the other side of the river. This will ultimately be linked by a footbridge.
Manx Carers
Provide encouragement, advice and support for the many people in the community who act as carers.
Manx Prayer net
The Prayer net provides a communication network supporting the whole community and partners with the Mill in having a daily cycle of prayer at 9.30 each day (Monday –Friday).
Hands of Hope
An Island-based charity which helps the poor and needy in the Dorohoi area of Botosani County, Romania. Hands of Hope support and encourage families in difficult times and, where able, meet their physical needs whilst also building friendships.
One World Centre
This dynamic environmental and developmental charity was based at St Johns Mill during its formative in its early stage before moving to Castletown.
Open University
The Mill provides a base for exams and tutorial sessions.
Island Spirituality Network
An ecumenical group which holds an open meeting at St Johns Mill each month to explore and develop understanding of spirituality
Scripture Union ( SUMT)
A growing team of young Leaders working with children and young people throughout the Island.
Wheel Restoration
The Mill contains the original historic equipment which the charity are working to restore.
The Mill was opened by H E Governor Jones in April 2003 after 2 years of restoration work on the derelict building. It is now sustained by a team of 8 staff and many volunteers who host and cater for up to 90 events per month.
